On November 9 of last year, iGEN and SIGMA organized an industry gathering at ION Harbour by Simon Rogan in Valletta. The event brought together Maltese iGaming executives and three endurance athletes to review charitable fundraising initiatives.
Athlete Profiles and Fundraising Activities
The evening focused on financial support for vulnerable community groups. Industry representatives examined the athletic programs and donation campaigns directed toward local social services. The Michelin-starred venue provided a structured environment for discussing ongoing support networks.Fabio Spiteri, 49, previously represented Malta in track competitions, securing medals at the 1999 Liechtenstein and 2001 San Marino Games in the 4x400m relay. He later transitioned to triathlon training and attempted ten Ironman events across ten days during the Brazil Ultra Triathlon. The campaign supported homeless animal shelters.
A training injury required him to withdraw after completing seven events.
Niel Agius, born June 6, 1986, specializes in long-distance freestyle swimming and operates a private swimming academy established in 2007. He recorded a world record by swimming 125 kilometers unassisted from Linosa, Italy, to Malta within 52 hours. Proceeds from his endurance challenges funded food distribution for families during the pandemic and support ocean plastic reduction campaigns.
Steve Sammut Nurminen focuses on ultrarunning and completed a 365-kilometer route across Sicily to finance meals for Soup Kitchen. He previously ran the full length of Malta three consecutive times during summer months. His latest initiative, Move For Meals, involved a 24-hour continuous run around the University track at Msida, matching the distance of four standard marathons.
He finished 394 laps independently while volunteers participated alongside him.
